Year 1 Teacher - Reading

Marchant Recruitment
Reading, Berkshire

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and motivated Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Reading, starting ASAP. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Key Stage 1 teacher who is passionate about supporting young learners during a critical stage of their education and helping them develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning.

The school has a strong community ethos and a supportive leadership team that values collaboration, creativity, and staff wellbeing. Teachers are encouraged to deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that inspire pupils and support their academic, social, and emotional development.

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the curriculum, ensuring that pupils consolidate their early learning skills and build strong foundations for Key Stage 2. You will provide pastoral support, promote positive behaviour, and create a structured, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with the Year 1 curriculum

  • Assess, monitor, and track pupil progress effectively

  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEN and EAL

  • Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience

  • Create a stimulating, inclusive, and structured classroom environment

  • Work closely with teaching assistants and KS1 colleagues

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress

  • Contribute to planning sessions, staff meetings, and school initiatives

  • Support pupils’ personal, social, and academic development

  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)

  • Have recent experience teaching KS1, ideally Year 1

  • Be organised, enthusiastic, and reflective in practice

  • Have strong classroom management and planning skills

  • Be a positive team player with excellent communication skills

  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing

The school is located in Reading, with excellent transport links and a friendly, supportive community. Staff benefit from a collaborative working culture, strong leadership support, and opportunities for professional development. This is a rewarding role for a teacher looking to make a meaningful impact in the early years of primary education.

How to Apply

Please submit an up-to-date CV outlining your experience and suitability for the role.
