About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Technology Teacher to join our supportive and forward-thinking secondary school in Reading. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical lessons that inspire students to develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and technical understanding.

Working within a collaborative department and reporting to the Head of Department, the postholder will contribute to high-quality teaching and learning while supporting the school’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and student wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality Technology lessons that engage and challenge students across Key Stages.

• Develop and implement schemes of work that align with the national curriculum and examination board requirements.

• Assess, monitor, and record student progress, providing constructive feedback to support improvement.

• Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages creativity and practical learning.

• Support students in developing design, problem-solving, and technical skills through hands-on projects.

• Contribute to the development of the Technology curriculum and departmental resources.

• Maintain high standards of classroom management and behaviour in line with school policies.

• Participate in departmental meetings, school events, and professional development opportunities.

• Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and colleagues regarding student progress and wellbeing.

Person Specification

Essential

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.

• Experience teaching Technology at secondary level.

• Strong subject knowledge and a passion for Technology education.

• Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.

• Ability to motivate and inspire students of varying abilities.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Desirable

• Experience teaching Design and Technology across multiple specialisms.

• Knowledge of GCSE or equivalent examination specifications.

• Experience contributing to extracurricular activities or STEM initiatives.
