Religious Studies Teacher

An exciting opportunity is available for a Religious Studies Teacher to join a prestigious, independent school in Reading. This is a full-time, permanent position within a highly respected Humanities department, where critical thinking, ethical inquiry, and a deep understanding of diverse beliefs are at the heart of the curriculum.

The Role

The school is seeking a knowledgeable, reflective, and dedicated Religious Studies Teacher to deliver engaging lessons across KS3–KS5. Religious Studies is a valued subject within the Humanities faculty, attracting academically curious students with a strong interest in philosophy, ethics, and global perspectives.

You will teach a broad and rigorous curriculum, from foundational religious and ethical concepts at KS3 to advanced A-Level Religious Studies (including Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, and developments in religious thought). You will contribute to a dynamic department that values intellectual debate, curriculum innovation, and high academic standards.

Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent) with a strong degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, or a related field

  • Proven experience teaching Religious Studies at GCSE and A-Level (IB experience desirable)

  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for philosophical, ethical, and theological debate

  • Ability to inspire, challenge, and engage students of all abilities

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Commitment to contributing to the wider school community, including debate clubs, philosophy societies, or enrichment activities
