Marchant Recruitment
Reading, Berkshire

Are you an inspiring Biology Teacher with a passion for deepening scientific understanding and encouraging a love of the natural world?

A prestigious independent school in Reading, renowned for its academic excellence and nurturing environment, is seeking a dedicated Biology Teacher to join its accomplished Science Faculty from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position that offers the opportunity to teach inquisitive, high-achieving pupils in a school celebrated for its holistic education and scholarly ambition.

The Role
You will teach Biology across Key Stages 3 to 5, fostering intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, and a spirit of scientific inquiry. Lessons are designed to combine theory with experimentation, helping students to connect complex biological processes with real-world applications in medicine, ecology, and biotechnology. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to guide students through A-Level and university preparation, as Biology is one of the school’s most popular and successful subjects.

Beyond classroom teaching, you will contribute to the wider life of the department through enrichment activities such as science clubs, fieldwork excursions, conservation projects, and competitive Olympiad participation. The school highly values teachers who are willing to engage with students outside the classroom and who bring energy, expertise, and innovation to their work.

The School
Set on a beautiful, green campus in Reading, the school blends tradition with modern innovation. It educates over 900 pupils and has achieved consistently excellent academic results, with many students progressing to top universities, including Oxbridge and leading Russell Group institutions. The Science Faculty enjoys an exceptional reputation, housed in state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with digital microscopes, molecular modelling tools, and advanced research equipment.

The school’s ethos combines academic rigour with creativity, ensuring every pupil’s potential is nurtured. Teachers enjoy small class sizes, supportive leadership, and extensive professional development opportunities within a collaborative and forward-looking community.

What We’re Looking For

  • A degree in Biology or a related discipline and QTS/PGCE (or international equivalent)

  • Proven ability to teach Biology across KS3–KS5, with strong subject knowledge

  • A commitment to inspiring scientific curiosity and critical thinking

  • Enthusiasm for co-curricular engagement and departmental collaboration

Why Join?

  • Competitive independent school salary above national scales

  • Small class sizes and outstanding laboratory resources

  • Access to extensive CPD and career development programmes

  • Beautiful working environment and a strong culture of wellbeing

  • A supportive, collegial community where teaching excellence is recognised

This is an exceptional opportunity for a passionate Biology Teacher to join a leading independent school in Reading and play a key role in shaping the next generation of scientific thinkers.
