School Receptionist | Reading

Marchant Recruitment

The Opportunity

Are you a highly organised professional with a flair for communication and a passion for being at the heart of a community? Can you represent a leading educational institution in the thriving town of Reading?

We are seeking a proactive and personable School Receptionist to join a dedicated administrative team in Reading . Positioned at the centre of the Thames Valley’s "Silicon Corridor," this school combines a tradition of academic excellence with a modern, fast-paced environment. As the "voice and face" of the school, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the front office while providing exceptional service to students, staff, and the wider public.

Core Responsibilities

  • Front-of-House Ambassador: Providing a warm, professional welcome to all visitors, including prospective parents, external inspectors, and community partners.

  • Communication Management: Efficiently operating a busy multi-line switchboard, filtering enquiries, and managing the main school email account with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Student Welfare & Support: Serving as a primary point of contact for students throughout the day—managing everything from medical room visits and first aid coordination to signing students in and out for appointments.

  • Administrative Precision: Supporting the school's operational efficiency by maintaining student records on SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom , and assisting with the production of school newsletters and bulletins.

  • Safeguarding & Security: Strictly adhering to "Keeping Children Safe in Education" (KCSIE) protocols by verifying visitor identification, issuing badges, and monitoring site access points.

  • Logistical Coordination: Managing the school's incoming and outgoing post, coordinating room bookings, and supporting the organisation of high-profile events like Open Evenings and Parent Consultations.

Why This School?

  • Reading’s Strategic Hub: Work in a dynamic town with world-class transport links and a reputation for innovation, providing a professional and forward-thinking work culture.

  • A Collaborative Environment: Join an office team that prides itself on mutual support, where your contribution is recognised as vital to the school’s pastoral and academic success.

  • Professional Development: Access to comprehensive training in Safeguarding , First Aid at Work , and advanced usage of Management Information Systems (MIS) .

  • Community Impact: Enjoy a role where no two days are the same and where you can make a tangible difference in the lives of young people and their families.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience: Previous experience in a high-volume reception, customer service, or administrative role is essential. Prior experience in a school or college environment is a distinct advantage.

  • Technical Literacy: Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with the ability to handle data with speed and confidentiality.

  • Interpersonal Skills: An exceptional telephone manner and the ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional under pressure or in busy periods.

  • Character: A reliable, adaptable team player with a "can-do" attitude and a commitment to the school’s values and safeguarding mission.
