Science Teacher
Science Teacher Location: South East England, Berkshire, Reading Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time Primary Industry: Education and Training Secondary Industry: Education and Training Salary: £150 - £230 per day Job Description We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Teacher to join a reputable educational institution in Reading, Berkshire. The role involves delivering high-quality science education to students, fostering a stimulating and inclusive learning environment, and supporting the overall development of pupils in line with the national curriculum. Job Duties Plan, prepare and deliver engaging science lessons across a range of key stages appropriate to the curriculum requirements. Assess, record and report on the progress, development and attainment of pupils in accordance with school policies and national standards. Use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. Promote positive behaviour and encourage a safe, supportive and productive classroom environment. Prepare and maintain teaching resources and laboratory equipment to ensure a safe and effective learning space. Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to support academic improvement. Support and contribute to extracurricular activities related to science, such as clubs, trips or competitions. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in departmental and whole-school meetings to ensure consistency and quality of teaching. Engage with parents and carers to discuss pupil progress and address any concerns. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in science education and teaching practises. Required Qualifications A recognised teaching qualification, such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or equivalent. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or eligibility to obtain QTS in the United Kingdom. A degree in a relevant science subject such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Combined Science. Education Secondary education to A Level standard or equivalent is required. Degree level qualification in a science discipline is essential. Ongoing commitment to professional development and lifelong learning. Experience Previous experience teaching science within a secondary school setting is preferred but not essential for newly qualified teachers. Experience in planning and delivering lessons that meet diverse learner needs. Experience managing classroom behaviour effectively. Knowledge and Skills Strong knowledge of the national curriculum for science education. Excellent classroom management and organisational skills. Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and enthusiastically. Good interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues. Competent in the use of educational technology and digital resources to enhance learning. Ability to assess pupil progress and adapt teaching accordingly. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Preferred Qualifications Experience with special educational needs and inclusion strategies. Additional qualifications or training related to science education. Familiarity with examination board specifications and assessment criteria. First aid qualification or willingness to undertake training. Working Conditions Based within a school environment in Reading, Berkshire. Full-time working hours, typically aligned with the school day and term calendar. May require participation in after-school activities, meetings and occasional school events. Work involves standing for extended periods and practical activities within laboratory settings. Safe working environment with adherence to health and safety regulations.
