We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and dedicated Year 6 Teacher to join a supportive primary school in Reading, starting as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity to teach pupils in their final year of primary school, preparing them academically, socially, and emotionally for the transition to secondary education.

The school has a strong inclusive ethos and values collaboration between staff, pupils, and families. Leadership is approachable and supportive, providing professional development opportunities and a structured environment where teachers can thrive and make a real impact on pupils’ learning.

The Role

As a Year 6 Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality lessons across the curriculum, with a particular focus on preparing pupils for end-of-key-stage assessments. You will provide academic support as well as guidance to foster resilience, confidence, and independence.

You will work closely with teaching assistants, Key Stage 2 colleagues, and senior leaders to ensure consistency, high standards, and positive outcomes for all pupils. Building strong relationships with parents and carers is also an important aspect of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons across the Year 6 curriculum

  • Prepare pupils effectively for SATs and transition to secondary school

  • Assess, track, and monitor pupil progress

  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL

  • Promote resilience, independence, and positive learning behaviours

  • Maintain a structured and inclusive classroom environment

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and KS2 colleagues

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers

  • Contribute to staff meetings, CPD, and school initiatives

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Have experience teaching Key Stage 2, ideally Year 6

  • Be confident delivering the national curriculum and assessment frameworks

  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills

  • Be reflective, proactive, and adaptable

  • Show a strong commitment to inclusion and safeguarding

  • Work effectively as part of a supportive and collaborative team

Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply and will receive mentoring and structured support.

Why Join This School?

  • Supportive and experienced KS2 team

  • Clear leadership and planning support

  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression

  • Well-resourced classrooms

  • Engaged, motivated, and happy pupils

  • A positive school culture that values staff wellbeing
