Are you passionate about helping young people build the confidence, skills, and belief they need to take their first real steps into employment?

At New Meaning Training Berkshire, we’re looking for a Tutor to lead learning on our employability programme, Boost Workskills , based in Reading. Boost is designed for young people who are almost ready for work but need structure, coaching, and encouragement to make the leap. Many of our learners haven’t had the easiest experience in education, and your role will be central in helping them understand workplace expectations, practise professional behaviours, and develop the motivation and resilience to move forward.

As a tutor, you will plan and deliver practical, engaging sessions that build communication, teamwork, independence, and jobreadiness. You’ll also support learners as they prepare for work placements or parttime employment, giving them the clarity and confidence they need to thrive.

Our learners are aged 16–25 and often have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or SEMH needs. You will play a vital role in helping them feel safe, understood, and capable of building a positive future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging 1:1 and small group sessions aligned to the Boost Workskills curriculum.

  • Adapt your teaching to meet learners’ individual needs, confidence levels, abilities, and social/emotional contexts.

  • Use relational and trauma-informed approaches to support behaviour, emotional regulation, and positive engagement.

  • Teach core employability skills, including communication, teamwork, punctuality, problem-solving, and workplace professionalism.

  • Prepare learners for work experience through mock interviews, CV development, job search tasks, and workplace behaviour coaching.

  • Develop resources, activities, and structured learning materials that support practical, hands-on learning.

  • Promote learner independence, confidence, and a strong work ethic through consistent encouragement and guidance.

  • Track and record learner progress, engagement, outcomes, and any required qualification or programme paperwork.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to create a motivating, supportive environment where learners can succeed.

  • Participate in onboarding, reviews, target setting, and communication with support professionals where appropriate.

About Us

New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are a post 16 training and education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 16–25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.

This academic year New Meaning Training has 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire. Many of these learners are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.

Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as “Toolshed.” Ten years on, NMT continues to grow. In Berkshire we’re fortunate enough to have expanded into a second building in Reading for our construction learners. We have a range of learning programmes: Construction Multi-skills, Creative Art & Design, Sports, Boost Workskills, and Achieve Lifeskills. All incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials and enrichment sessions to support our well-rounded approach. We also provide a ‘Transition Support’ programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting.

NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
