Do you have the empathy, patience, and creativity to meet young people exactly where they are—sometimes quite literally?

At New Meaning Training (NMT), we believe education should start with the learner’s needs, not the timetable. Some of our students are not yet ready to join even a small group of peers. They may face significant barriers including anxiety, autism, trauma, or other social-emotional challenges. That’s why our Transition Support Tutor pathway begins in the place they feel safest—often at home—and progresses at a pace that suits them.

We’re looking for a compassionate, flexible professional who understands that transition isn’t linear. As a Transition Support Tutor, you’ll help young people build confidence, routine, and the life skills they need to re-engage with learning. You might start the year spending most of your time on the road, visiting learners at home or in the community. As trust and engagement grow, you’ll support their move into our Reading centre, small group settings, and potentially into mainstream classes or employment.

You’ll be delivering Proactive Lifeskills (PALS), SEMH support, and—when the learner is ready—Functional Skills in Maths and English. What matters most is your ability to build relationships, adapt your approach, and walk beside each learner on their unique journey.

If you have the relational skills and resilience to help young people take their first steps toward education, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group sessions centred on lifeskills, emotional wellbeing, and learning goals

  • Plan and adapt engaging sessions tailored to individual learner needs and progression

  • Support transitions across different settings (home → group → centre → work)

  • Maintain clear and up-to-date records of learner progress, attendance, and engagement

  • Collaborate with tutors and support staff on schemes of work and learning plans

  • Participate in learner onboarding, induction, and review processes

  • Develop and adapt learning resources for SEND and SEMH learners

  • Apply trauma-informed and relational strategies to support behaviour and wellbeing

  • Understand learner needs and respond with appropriate interventions

  • Use Microsoft Office confidently for planning and reporting

About Us

New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are a post 16 training and education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 16–25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.

This academic year New Meaning Training has 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire. Many of these learners are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.

Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as “Toolshed.” Ten years on, NMT continues to grow. In Berkshire we’re fortunate enough to have expanded into a second building in Reading for our construction learners. We have a range of learning programmes: Construction Multiskills, Creative Art & Design, Sports, Boost Workskills, and Achieve Lifeskills. All incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials and enrichment sessions to support our well-rounded approach. We also provide a ‘Transition Support’ programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting.

NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
