A high-achieving independent school in Reading is seeking to appoint a dependable and organised Science Technician to support its successful Science Department across KS3–KS5. This is a key role within a well-resourced faculty where practical science is central to the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up experiments in Biology, Chemistry and Physics

• Clear away materials safely and efficiently after lessons

• Prepare chemical solutions and specialist equipment

• Maintain and service laboratory apparatus

• Conduct routine equipment safety checks

• Monitor stock levels and maintain accurate inventory records

• Order chemicals, equipment and consumables within budget

• Ensure safe storage of hazardous substances in line with COSHH regulations

• Maintain up-to-date risk assessments and safety documentation

• Support teachers during practical lessons where required

• Ensure laboratories and prep rooms remain clean, organised and compliant

• Manage safe disposal of chemical and biological waste

The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate

• Experience in a laboratory or school technician role (desirable)

• Strong knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures

• Excellent organisational and time-management skills

• High attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to prioritise workload effectively

• Professionalism and reliability

• A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
