Process Engineer - Wastewater & Sludge Treatment

What you’ll be doing as a Process Engineer – Wastewater & Sludge Treatment
  • Designing treatment processes — developing wastewater and sludge treatment solutions that meet regulatory, environmental, and internal performance standards.
    • Collaborating across disciplines — working with engineering, technical, and operational teams to deliver integrated, high‑quality project outcomes.
    • Improving design standards — contributing to the evolution of internal design standards and best practices.
    • Providing technical assurance — offering expert review, sign‑off, and guidance throughout project delivery and handover.
    • Supporting operational teams — delivering technical input to optimise performance and troubleshoot issues.
    • Developing engineering capability — helping shape a strong, sustainable engineering community from entry level to specialists.
Base location : Hybrid - Clearwater Court - RG1 8DB

Working pattern or hours: 36 hours Mon- Fri

Necessary requirements for the role: Regular travel to sites as needed by the project and weekly attendance to Clearwater Court.

What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
  • Degree‑level qualification in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
    • Understanding of wastewater and sludge treatment processes and how they support regulatory compliance.
    • Analytical and problem‑solving strength with the ability to translate complex challenges into practical solutions.
    • Clear, confident communication to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
    • Commitment to diversity in engineering and contributing to an inclusive culture at Thames Water.
    • Progress toward chartership with a recognised professional institution.
