Job Overview for the Social Worker Job in Reading

As a Social Worker , you will play a key role in assessing the needs of individuals and families, developing care plans, and providing support to promote independence, safeguard wellbeing, and improve outcomes. You will work closely with service users, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care and support, in line with local authority and national safeguarding policies.

This role may involve working across children’s services, adult social care, or mental health, depending on experience and service requirements.

Key Responsibilities for the Social Worker Job in Reading

  • Carry out comprehensive assessments of individuals and families to determine their needs and eligibility for services.
  • Develop, implement, and review personalised care and support plans.
  • Work in partnership with individuals, families, carers, and other professionals to promote wellbeing and independence.
  • Safeguard vulnerable adults and children by identifying risks and taking appropriate action in line with safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and documentation.
  • Attend case conferences, court proceedings, and multi-agency meetings as required.
  • Provide advice, advocacy, and emotional support to service users.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the Care Act, Children Act, Mental Health Act, and Equality Act.
  • Promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and person-centred care.

Requirements for the Social Worker Job in Reading

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Previous experience working in a statutory or voluntary social care setting.
  • Strong understanding of social work legislation, safeguarding, and best practice.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in child protection, adult safeguarding, or mental health services.
  • Familiarity with case management systems and digital record-keeping.
  • Knowledge of Reading local authority services and resources.
  • Additional training in trauma-informed care, mental capacity assessments, or risk assessment.
