Water Asset Planner

Reading, Berkshire
This role is accountable for creating and maintaining asset plans for each site and water supply system for the current AMP and for future planning periods. The primary aim is to build and maintain comprehensive plans containing a prioritised and sequenced list of projects/ interventions on-site and across the wider system/ catchment and to communicate clearly the stage gate timelines required from project deliverers.

The site and system-based plans will focus on the issues and themes each area faces, and the business plan objectives to be achieved in the next 5 years. This will include how we can improve operational performance, resilience, asset health and new environment/ regulatory improvements. It must also consider community and stakeholder requirements. They will need to be aligned to our strategic themes and be based on our strategic plans.

What you'll be doing as a Water Asset Planner

You will own the plan for your sites and systems and stay involved in the plans as they are delivered through the sponsorship model.
  • Lead the development of integrated site plans by facilitating cross-functional collaboration, identifying interdependencies and determining the optimal sequencing of interventions.
    • Continuously update and maintain comprehensive site and system-level plans, adapting to project changes and reflecting evolving priorities across the asset lifecycle.
    • Gather long-term strategic input from Asset Strategy to inform Price Review 29 planning and ensure alignment with future needs.
    • Develop and prioritise projects for current and future 5-yearly Asset Management Periods (AMPs), incorporating engineering insights and defining technical scope for robust submissions to decision gates.
    • Create and manage system-wide plans across abstraction, treatment, storage, pumping, and sludge assets—addressing capital maintenance, growth, enhancement, and quality goals.
    • Deliver on Capital maintenance plans and efficiently spend in relation to asset health and supporting our Outcome Delivery Incentives.
    • Monitor and evaluate asset condition, maintenance standards and anticipated failure rates.
    • Support external engagement activities, helping stakeholders understand and align with our strategic plans.
Base Location: Hybrid from our Reading Office, Clearwater Court a few days a week.

Salary : Between £45,370 - £68,055 per annum, depending on experience.

What you should bring to the role:
The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role are:
  • Knowledge of asset management and planning/forecasting.
    • Analytical and confident with numbers, able to communicate complex ideas clearly and simply.
    • Have a good understanding of risk management.
    • Confident communicator who builds strong relationships across teams and external stakeholders.
    • Proactive, can influence across all levels and consider different views.
    • Able to work flexibly across multiple workstreams, responding to changes in focus.
Additional skills and experiences would be great to have:
  • Knowledgeable about water and wastewater systems and external impacts.
    • Professional membership of an engineering, environmental or asset management organisation is an advantage.
    • Ideally, understand regulatory processes, such as price reviews or annual returns.
