Performance Analyst
We’re looking for a motivated and detail focused Performance Analyst to join our Children’s Services directorate. You’ll play a key role in strengthening how we use data to improve outcomes for children, young people and families across Reading. Working closely with colleagues across Education, Early Help, SEND and Social Care, you will help ensure our services are informed, responsive and continuously improving.

About the role In this role, you’ll be responsible for producing meaningful, accurate and timely performance information that supports decision making across the directorate. You’ll work with a variety of data sets, systems and service areas, helping colleagues understand and use performance information effectively. Your work will include: Collating, validating and analysing data from ICT systems and manual sourcesPreparing clear, accessible performance reports, charts and dashboards for non specialist audiences
Supporting statutory returns by gathering, checking and submitting required information
Working with operational teams to improve data quality and provide training on data systems
Contributing to service reviews, inspections and research projects
Leading small projects and supporting the development of performance processes and systems About you You’ll bring strong numerical skills, attention to detail and confidence working with data across a range of systems and sources. You are comfortable collecting, validating, analysing and interpreting information, and presenting insights in a clear and accessible way that supports business and operational decision‑making. You enjoy problem‑solving, collaborating with others and applying data in practical, real‑world contexts. We’re looking for someone who has: Strong ICT skills, with practical experience using Excel (including formulas, data cleaning and basic analysis), alongside regular use of Outlook and Word for communication and reporting
Experience capturing, extracting and processing data from different sources, including spreadsheets, internal databases or system‑generated reports
Experience supporting the maintenance and development of regular management or performance reporting, as well as responding to ad‑hoc data requests
The ability to identify appropriate data to meet business needs and translate requirements into clear, accurate outputs
Experience analysing both quantitative and qualitative information, producing clear written summaries, reports and briefings
Confidence presenting data in an easy to understand way, using tables, charts or written narrative to communicate key findings
An understanding of how reporting products are developed, maintained and improved, including supporting change requests or resolving data issues
An interest in improving processes and ways of working, and contributing to continuous improvement in data capture, reporting and analysis
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work accurately under pressure
A flexible, supportive and collaborative approach when working with colleagues
An understanding of research methods, data quality, confidentiality and information governance Experience working with performance or statistical data, and familiarity with social policy areas such as education, health or social care, would be advantageous but is not essential. You’ll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability.
