Assistant Director of Music
Assistant Director of Music
From September 2026
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspiring and committed musician-educator to join the vibrant Music Department at Leighton Park School as Assistant Director of Music from September 2026.
Music is central to life at Leighton Park, reflecting the School’s ethos of nurturing creativity, individuality and excellence. We are seeking a talented teacher and performer who shares our belief in the transformative power of music education and is passionate about enabling every student to find their musical voice.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, able to teach Music across Key Stages 3, GCSE and A Level. Experience of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) would be welcomed, although it is not essential. You will be an accomplished and versatile musician, confident in performance on one or more instruments, and able to inspire students through both your teaching and your own musicianship.
As Assistant Director of Music, you will work closely with the Director of Music to support the strategic and day-to-day leadership of this busy and successful department. You will play a key role in shaping a curriculum that is broad, inclusive and forward-thinking, and in fostering a culture of high aspiration and musical curiosity. A defining feature of Music at Leighton Park is its rich and diverse Co-Curricular programme. The successful candidate will contribute fully to this, leading ensembles, supporting concerts and events, and encouraging participation at all levels. You will bring energy and imagination to developing opportunities for students of all abilities, and a strong commitment to inclusion and collaboration.
We are looking for someone with a deep enthusiasm for working with young people, a commitment to innovative and reflective teaching practice, and the ability to support and inspire colleagues within a collaborative department. Experience of developing young instrumentalists and ensembles will be essential.
The Music Department benefits from excellent, purpose-built facilities and a strong culture of performance, alongside partnerships with professional organisations that enrich students’ musical experiences. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated and reflective practitioner to develop their leadership skills within a supportive and forward-looking environment, and to make a significant contribution to the musical life of the School.
The School offers a supportive and professional workplace with excellent terms, conditions and benefits.
