Quantum Error Correction Theorist (Hiring Immediately)
At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started.
We are seeking to grow our team of Quantum Error Correction Theorists to advance the theory and practice of quantum error correction (QEC) — the fundamental science that will make fault-tolerant quantum computing possible.
If you are driven to push the boundaries of quantum information theory and see your research translated into hardware impact, this is the opportunity for you.
The Role
As a Quantum Error Correction Theorist at OQC, you will lead theoretical work that directly underpins the performance and scalability of our superconducting quantum processors. You will design, analyse, and implement advanced QEC techniques, simulate real system behaviour, and work across teams to embed your insights into the design of next-generation quantum hardware.
You will play a key part in shaping OQC’s scientific direction, contributing to error mitigation strategies, resource optimisation, and architectural improvements that push us toward fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research into quantum error-correction theory — from conceptual design to evaluation, documentation, and dissemination.
- Develop, maintain, and test new QEC techniques tailored for superconducting quantum processors.
- Simulate processor performance using real experiment-informed models; identify error mitigation opportunities and pathways to improved performance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, algorithm, and systems teams to integrate QEC approaches into our technology stack.
- Represent OQC externally, presenting progress at conferences and participating in research collaborations.
What We’re Looking For
- Deep expertise in quantum error correction and quantum information theory, typically demonstrated through research, publications, or industrial experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to navigate complex theoretical landscapes and translate results into practical impact.
- Experience with simulations of quantum systems and performance analysis under real device characteristics.
- Communication and writing skills, with an ability to articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborative mindset — thriving across disciplinary boundaries and supporting shared scientific progress
Why OQC?
At OQC, you’ll be part of a team pushing the frontier of quantum computing — integrating theory, software, and hardware to build systems that solve real-world challenges. You’ll work in a highly collaborative environment where ideas travel fast, research impacts reality, and ambitious thinking is encouraged.
Join us and help define what fault-tolerant quantum computing will look like.
Apply today and shape the foundations of tomorrow’s quantum era.
